ADVOCATE

Growing up in Woodlawn and Riverdale neighborhoods gave Alton Bradley a unique perspective on life and people, which became the catalyst for his passion — to see all communities thrive not just survive.  Raised by his sisters after the passing of his parents at the age of 14, Alton knew he was blessed to have the love and support of family and a community to avoid falling into the depths of crime and despair.  Alton would look outside his window as a kid and see others who did not have the support or opportunity to survive, and saw a community beaming with pride but starving for resources.

After graduating from Thornton Township High School and the University of Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a law degree, Alton returned to the same high school home in Riverdale only to realize the view outside his window had not changed in decades.  Alton decided to run for State Representative for one purpose — to be an advocate for the people of the 30th district. Alton's hopes to be a voice for residents who need a positive change and a fresh perspective on common challenges we can see with our eyes and feel with our wallets.

Alton’s passion for advocacy started with a natural skill, listening. He couples that skill with a sincere desire to help. Alton has a host of aunts and uncles who all have served as mentors and inspirations and have made positive impacts on his life.  Perhaps that’s how the seed of Alton’s passion for advocacy was planted, as his role models all echoed a message first told to him by his father — to pay it forward.  He began his legal career as a prosecutor; he spent almost five years in the courtroom advocating for the victims of crimes in Cook County. During his time there, Alton also managed the expungement unit, assisting in the process of helping thousands of people clear their criminal record in their pursuit of a better life. Alton’s career continued to the private sector where he worked to investigate allegations of harassment and discrimination.  It’s that same passion that also extends outside of work. He’s an active volunteer and mentor with many organizations and Alton strives to “pay it forward” not only by representing the people of the 30th district, but also by advocating for the people and helping to bring about positive changes.
